Although the current emphasis in the aquarium hobby is on the cichlids of lakes Malawi and Tanganyika, there are numerous other African cichlids that are colorful, successful additions to the aquarium. Some of these have been popular for years, while others are just starting to appear on the market with regularity. Unlike the Lake cichlids, these species usually require less unusual water conditions, doing well in water of about neutral pH and normal hardness. They are usually content with prepared food supplemented with feedings of brine shrimp and tubifex. There are 36 known fish catogorized in this species.
NOTICE - Because there are so many species of fish in the world there would be no way for one person to be able to research and type the needed information for this massive work in a reasonable amount of time. If you have information to some of these species and possibly others please let us know. We will be glad to give you the credit. Some resources state that there could be more than 7,000 species of fish in the world.
