History - This breed comes from the Chukchi people of northeast Asia. Its history is unknown. It is of the spitz stock, evolved over hundreds of years as a sledge dog for these nomadic people. These dogs play a vital role in sled dog races from Nome to Candle. The Siberian Husky was known for its strength and dominance in these races. Temperament - Fun-loving, adventurous, alert, independent, clever, mischievous, stubborn and great with children. It loves exercise and may be aggressive toward other dogs. This is a very social dog and needs companionship from humans and other dogs. Some howl, dig and chew on things. They may chase strange cats and other peoples animals. Upkeep - Needs daily exercise, could run for miles without tiring. It loves to pull and loves the cold weather. It likes to divide its time between outdoors and indoors. It needs brushed 2-3 times a week. Size - Males weight from 45 - 60 pounds and females from 35-50 pounds. Males can measure 21-23.5 inches at the shoulder and females 20-22 inches tall. |
