MASTIFF
History - The Mastiff breed is a prototypical breed of the ancient mastiff. Around the time of Caesar mastiffs were used for war dogs and gladiators. In medieval times they were used as guard dogs and hunting dogs. Later mastiffs were used in the areana as fighting dogs. History of the breed dates back 500 years and the Lyme Hall Mastiffs. As with other breeds on this site it was almost decimated in England by World War II, but sufficient numbers were brought to America to preserve the breed.
Temperament - This breed is good natured, calm, easygoing and surprisingly gentle. It is a well-mannered house pet but needs a lot of room to stretch out. This is a very loyal breed devoted to family and children.
Upkeep - The Mastiff needs plenty of exercise consisting of a long walk, running or playing a game. It does not enjoy hot weather and can live in cooler weather. I prefers the role of guardian.
Size - The weight of both male and females can reach 190 pounds and measure 30 inches for the male and 27 inches for the female.
