ENGLISH TOY SPANIEL |
|||||||
History - The English Toy Spaniel and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel share identical early histories. They began as one breed, resulting from the crossing of small spaniels with Oriental breeds. Some evidence supports the theory that Mary, Queen of Scots, brought the breed from France. These early dogs were all black and tan: other colors were developing red and white "Blenheims," named after his estate. Most of the owners were more interested in having a lapdog than a hunting dog. Temperament - This dog enjoys a life of leisure and romps in the yard or park. This lap dog is gentle, amiable, calm and quiet, yet playful and attentive. It is devoted to its family, but reserved with strangers. Upkeep - Although it enjoys a nice walk on a leash or fun in the yard. The Toy Spaniel is not overly active and its exercise needs can be met with minimal effort. It does not do well in the heat and is not suited to living outdoors and away from the family. Size - Both male and female can weight between 8 and 14 pounds and shoulder heights can reach 11 inches. |
