BULL TERRIER

History - Bull terriers, the offspring of a bulldog and a now extinct white terrier, were bred for dogfighting in England in the 19th century.

Temperament - Bull terriers are sweet, energetic, playful dogs that require a lot of attention and love to frolic with their families. If they are ignored, behavioral problems may develop.  Early obedience classes and socialization with children, adults, and other animals are recommeded.  But terriers are rarely stars at obedience school, but if handled with leadership and praie, they will succeed.  Don’t Play aggressive games with bull terriers. They are usually friendly to stranges, but always walk them on a leash to avoid confrontations with other dogs.  If provoked, they may cause serious injury or death to other dogs.

Upkeep - Bull terriers need only an occasional brushing. They require a lot of play and exercise, including several long walks daily.

Size - height 21-22 inches, weight 50-60 pounds.
