BRITTANY

History - French sportsment in the 1800s  crossed their small land spaniels with English Setters in attempts to produce a  better hunting dog.  This new breed were excellent woodcock hunters.  The first  Brittany was registered in 1907 and then finally came to America around 1925 and  was then recognized by the AKC in that year.  The Brittany has become one of the most popular pointing dogs at field tests.  This put the breed at the top of the  popularity lists for bird hunters.

Temperament - This is a quick and curious dog always on the lookout for birds.  They love to run, scout, hunt and play at  any opportunity.  This dog makes a great house pet as long as they are given the  proper attention.  If they do not receive the proper excercise they can become  destructive.

Upkeep - The Brittany requires little  maintenance.  Its major requirement is exercise for at least an hour.  This dog is not suited for apartment life.  It needs social interaction with humans.  Its coat is easy to manage and requires two brushes per week.

Size - Both male and female can reach weights of 30 - 40 pounds and  reach heights of 20.5 inches.
