History - The Belgian Malinois is one of the three types of Belgian sheepherding dogs registered in Belgium and France as the Chien de Berger Belge.  It derives from the same stock described in the history of the Belgian Sheepdog which follows, but is traced back in Belgium only to 1898 when  a specimen of this breed, a dog maned Tomy, was the first to attract attention.  This breed has identical colors as the Belgian Sheepdog and Belgian Tervuren.  It has a short coat, which is especially short on the head and ears.

General Characteristics - This dog is strong, agile, well-muscled,  alert and full of life.  It has a rich fawn to mahogany, with black overlay.   Black mask and ears.  The underside is a lighter fawn.

Males can reach heights of 24 to 26 inches in height, females, 22 to 24  inches.
