AIREDALE TERRIER
History - The Airedale terrier originated in the 19th century in Yorkshire, England, along the Aire River, when a black and tan terrier was crossed with an otter hound. The result was a fearless, tenacious dog that loved cold water.
Temperament - The Airedale terrier is know for its playfulness and courage, as well as its love of and patiences with children. It can, however, be stubborn and may challenge its owners for dominance in the pack. It may also be aggressive with other dogs. Obedienc training and socialization are hightly recommended at an early age. The Airedale is a first-class watchdog, wary of strangers at first but ready to befriend them if encouraged by its owners.
Upkeep - Grooming requirements are minimal. Show dogs need stripping and pets require occasional clipping. Daily vigorous exercise, such as a few long, brisk walks and a couple of aerobic play sessions, will help keep the Airedale happy.
Size - height 22-23 inches, weight 45-50 pounds.
