AFGHAN HOUND
History - This aristocratic dog is know in the West as a competitor in the show ring and as a fashionable companion, but its origins are more rugged and earthly. It originated as a large-game hunting and falconing dog in the mountains of Afganistan in the 17th century.
Temperament - Afghans, likemost sight hounds, are generally gentle dogs but are aloof and cautious with strangers. They are friendly with most other animals, although they may chase cats if not socialized with them early. They are very sensitive to strange noises. It is very important to socialize and obedience train these outstanding graceful dogs from an early age.
Upkeep - Afghans require daily brushing and combing. A daily dose of vigorous exercise.
Size - height 25-27 inches, weight 50-60 pounds.
