The Snowshoe is a pointed cat with carefully drawn white markings on its face, chest, belly, and feet. This hybrid was developed in the late 1960s by Dorothy Hinds-Daughery of Philadelphia. Though Mr. Hinds-Daughtery disappeared from the cat fancy after working with the Snowshoe for serveral years, we can infer that creating this breed required a lot of patience and at least tow matings between Siamese, bicolored American Shorthairs, and their offspring. After she had created and named her new breed, Dorothy Hinds-Daugherty left its future in the hands of others. The first Snowshoe Standard was written by Vikki Olander of Norfolk, Virginia, who was influential in securing registration status for the Snowshoe in 1974 from both the American Cat Association and the Cat Fancier’s Federation. The breed has been recognized for championship competition by CFF since May 1,1983.
