The first representation of the cat believed to be the ancestor of the modern-day Korat appears in the Cat-Book Poems, a manuscript preserved in the Thai National Library in Bangkok. This anonymous work contains verses that describe several kinds of cats. Among them is a solid blue presumed to be the ancestor of the Korat. Since the Cat-Book Poems was rescued from the Siamese city of Ayudha, which was 417 years old when it was leveled by Burmese invaders in 1767, we can assume that the Korat is more than two centureis old, and quite possibly older. Yet even though it is the namesake of the Siamese province of Korat, this silver-blue cat with the heart-shaped face and luminous green eyes can be found in most of the other provinces of Thailand (formerly Siam) as well.
